/ Galvanised & Bright, Flat & Jolt Head Nails

Handy Tips – Smooth Shank Nails / For Common Fixing
A rule of thumb that can be used for determining the length of nail required is three times the thickness of the timber being fixed. e.g. 25mm Timber = 75mm Nail.

Stagger nails where close nailing is necessary to prevent timber splitting.
When nailing near the edge of the work surface it may be necessary to drill pilot holes using a slightly smaller diameter drill than the nail shank to stop the timber splitting.
Wherever possible, skew nail to maximise joint strength.

Flat Head
A large diameter head (normally up to 2.5 times the thickness of the nail shank). This head will sit slightly proud of the work surface. Flat head nails are designed to resist pull through on soft or thin timbers. This nail is used where the concealment of the head is not critical. Particularly suitable for strong construction. e.g. Framing.

Jolt Head
A small diameter head particularly suitable for applications where the head is required to be concealed. This head may be punched beneath the timber surface. Jolt head nails are designed to either finish flush with or below the work surface.

Galvanised Nails
Have been coated after manufacture with zinc for corrosion protection. For exterior use or where moisture may occur.
Uses:
External framing (pergolas, shade houses, car-ports etc), timber fencing & gates, landscaping, external finishing (eaves, fascias), or in any situation where the timbers being held are exposed to the elements and protection from corrosion is required.
(Stainless Steel Nails are recommeded for areas exposed to corrosive conditions)

Bright Nails
A plain steel nail that has no protective coating. Nails have been rumbled (polished) after manufacture to give a shiny finish. For interior use only.
Uses: All Internal framing - walls, roofing, floor structures, internal finishing (skirting architraves), joinery and cabinet making.

/ Galvanised Timber Deck, Flooring/Decking & Paling Nails

Annular Grooved (A.G.) or Ring Shank
This shank has been mechanically rolled to leave a number of sharp rings. These rings act like barbs against the timber fibres, vastly increasing the holding power of the nail. This nail shank is used where increased holding is required.

Galvanised Nails
Have been coated after manufacture with zinc for corrosion protection. For exterior use or where moisture may occur. (Stainless Steel Nails are recommended for areas exposed to high corrosion)

Galvanised Timber Deck Nail (A.G.) – Countersunk Head
Uses: For fastening 37-40mm timber decking it has a superior holding power with an annular grooved shank. The countersunk head on this nail holds the decking in place without damaging the timber.

Galvanised Timber Flooring/Decking Nail (A.G.) – Countersunk Head
Uses: This nail has an annular grooved shank for extra holding power. It is used for fastening particle board flooring to floor joists and in external circumstances this nail is used for fastening Hardwood decking timber. When using nails in Hardwood it is preferable to pre-drill Hardwood first. The countersunk head on this nail holds the decking in place without damaging the timber.

Galvanised Timber Paling Nail (A.G.) – Flat Head
Uses:
This nail is used for fixing timber palings with a thickness of 19mm or 25mm. The annular grooved shank has extra holding power. The flat head helps eliminate pull through.

/ Galvanised Fibre Cement, Jolt & Underlay Nails

Jolt Head
A small diameter head particularly suitable for applications where the head is required to be concealed. This head may be punched beneath the product surface. Jolt head nails are designed to either finish flush with or below the product surface.

Galvanised Nails
Have been coated after manufacture with zinc for corrosion protection. For exterior use or where moisture may occur. (Stainless Steel Nails are recommended for areas exposed to high corrosion)

Galvanised Fibre Cement Nail
Uses: Used for fixing various James Hardie products. (Please refer to manufacturer guidelines for application instructions for these nails).

Galvanised Jolt Head Nail (3.15mm Diameter)
Uses: Used for fixing Linea Weatherboard. (Please refer to manufacturer guidelines for application instructions for these nails).

Galvanised Underlay Nail (Annular Grooved)
Uses: Used for fixing Tile Underlay Sheet to wooden or particle board flooring so that tiles can be laid over the top. (Please refer to manufacturer guidelines for application instructions for these nails).

/ Galvanised & Gold Passivated Plasterboard Clout Nails

Clout Head
A thin diameter head (can be more than 2.5 times the shank thickness). This nail is used mainly for attaching sheet materials and other products to timber.

Galvanised Nails
Have been coated after manufacture with zinc for corrosion protection. For exterior use or where moisture may occur. (Stainless steel nails are recommended for areas exposed to high corrosion)

Galvanised Clout Nails
Uses: Utility clout used for fastening plywoods and various timber products.

Gold Passivated Plasterboard Clout Nail (Annular Grooved)
Uses: For fixing Plasterboard, 40mm nail used for fixing 12.5mm and 30mm nail used for fixing 9.5mm plasterboard. This shank has been mechanically rolled to leave a number of sharp rings. These rings act like barbs against the timber fibres, vastly increasing the holding power of the nail. This nail shank is used where increased holding is required. (Please refer to manufacturer guidelines for application instructions for these nails).

/ Plated Panel Pin Nail

Panel Pin Head
A small jolt head used where concealment of the head is required.

Plated Panel Pin Nail
Uses: This nail is zinc plated it is used for finishing work such as internal timber moulding, joinery and cabinet making.

Electroplated (Zinc Plating)
Has been coated after manufacture with zinc for corrosion protection using electroplating processes. These nails are not recommended for Exterior use.
(Stainless Steel Nails are recommended for areas exposed to high corrosion)
